The IENE Wildlife Traffic Handbook is Now Available Online!

The IENE Online Handbook for Identifying Conflicts and Designing Solutions is now live, offering a living resource to address the ecological impacts of transportation infrastructure. Building on decades of research and practice, this updated handbook provides knowledge, innovative measures, and actionable solutions to reduce the ecological footprint of infrastructure and traffic. By incorporating nature-based solutions, it encourages actions to mitigate habitat fragmentation, enhance green infrastructure, and restore natural ecosystems.

This handbook recognizes that achieving safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure with positive effects on biodiversity and human well-being requires collaboration among stakeholders, improved knowledge transfer, and capacity building. Designed as a living resource, the handbook will evolve with contributions from users, ensuring it remains relevant and up-to-date as the field progresses. The IENE welcomes your feedback to further refine this essential guide.

Managed by Infra Eco Network Europe (IENE), the handbook builds on the first European guidelines published in 2003 through the Cost Action 341 project. Its continued development is supported by the Horizon 2020 project ‘Biodiversity and Infrastructure Synergies and Opportunities for European Transport Networks’ (BISON).

Explore the handbook and discover how it supports the integration of ecological principles into infrastructure planning and development. Access the resource at IENE Wildlife Traffic Handbook Online and join the effort to build infrastructure that harmonizes with nature.
